Key dates for 2009
- 2 February Term 1 begins.
- Mid February Challenge begins – online registration system opens
- 3 April Term 1 ends – All school registrations complete
- 20 April Term 2 begins
- 1 June - MS Readathon begins
- 26 June Term 2 ends – All student registrations completed
- 30 June - MS Readathon ends
- 13 July Term 3 begins
- 18 August - Schools finalise their reading and records from this date to allow time to complete and check data before 31 August
- 22 August - Children’s Book Week – Book Safari
- 31 August - Victorian Premier’s Reading Challenge ends. The Challenge online application closes. No data can be entered after this date
- 31 August - National Literacy and Numeracy Week begins
- 6 September - National Literacy and Numeracy Week ends
- 18 September Term 3 ends
- 5 October Term 4 begins
- During Term 4 - Celebrations of student achievement
- 18 December Term 4 ends
Book Week
Book Week is the longest running children’s festival in Australia, celebrating its 64th birthday in 2009. All the previous themes can be found here.
The dates for Book Week this year are August 22nd – 28th.
Each year, many schools and public libraries from all over Australia spend a week celebrating books and Australian authors and illustrators. Classroom teachers, teacher librarians and public librarians develop activities, offer competitions and tell stories relating to a theme to highlight the importance of reading.
The theme in 2009 is… Book Safari
Once the 2009 merchandise is available, there will be links on both the National and branch websites to assist you to purchase items to enhance your bookweek experience. These items maybe purchased either online or via post.
